Pitru Paksh Seva Day 7: Aligning with Ancestral Strengths

A family story contains more than wounds. It may also carry the courage to stand together, the strength to rebuild and a capacity for devotion. Day 7 brings those qualities into the present as a foundation for conscious living.

Aligning with Ancestral Strengths
Symbolic AI-created illustration, not a depiction of actual ancestors.

A detailed article based on Hitesh Chhabra’s original video. This series combines traditional shraddha and tarpan with remembrance, prayer and inward reflection.

Guidance does not replace our choices

Day 7 opens with a question: if ancestors and benevolent spiritual guides support us, why do we still make unwise choices? Hitesh answers by distinguishing guidance from control. Wishing someone well is not the same as taking over every decision they make.

In this spiritual understanding, ancestral and divine inspiration offers direction but does not perform our actions for us. Responsibility remains with the individual. An angry or prideful choice cannot simply be excused by saying that a higher power should have prevented it.

The practice begins by becoming available to the quality we seek. Wanting courage also asks for a willingness to face a difficult decision. Wanting peace asks for a pause before reacting.

The radio metaphor: connection and attention

Hitesh uses a radio tuned away from its station. The broadcast may be at 104.7 while the receiver is set to 102. The music becomes clearer as the dial is brought into alignment.

The example explains spiritual alignment through a familiar metaphor. Frequency here describes the direction of attention and understanding, not a scientific radio measurement of a soul. The practical question is whether our conduct is receptive to the qualities we wish to invite into life.

Before the practice, viewers are asked to pause and write down two or three genuine strengths of their family. Not invented ideals, but qualities supported by a memory or example. These become the foundation of the day’s reflection.

The first strength: standing by people in difficulty

Remembering his family, Hitesh returns to his grandfather’s early life: coming to India during Partition, carrying responsibility for younger siblings, sustaining the family and continuing to support sisters and associates. The recurring quality is not leaving people alone in difficulty.

He also recalls his uncle’s reassurance that the family would stand by someone in serious trouble, whether or not they had remembered them during happier times. Amid the difficulties associated with his father’s drinking, his grandfather and uncles supported the children’s food and education.

Living that quality now does not mean controlling every decision. It means offering credible reassurance that a person will be heard and helped where possible. Standing beside someone is different from taking away their freedom.

Today’s video & guided practice

Before the practice, the video asks you to write down two or three family strengths. Keep them nearby while following the traditional offering and the complete guidance remembering Shiva as Matangeshwar.

Watch the complete video on YouTube ↗

The second strength: rebuilding with what remains

The video recalls fires that destroyed stock and shops in the family’s fruit business. A single night’s loss can shake years of effort. Yet work began again.

Hitesh sees more than financial recovery in that story. He recognizes a way of looking at life: begin building from available resources instead of remaining fixed only on what was lost. Loss hurts, but the ability to choose a next step can remain.

Look for a comparable strength in your own history. Did someone rebuild after displacement, failure or a difficult period? Move beyond preserving the anecdote and ask which behavior it offers for a situation you face today.

The third strength: devotion as a shared direction

Hitesh recalls visiting a Shiva temple with his grandfather, grinding sandalwood and offering it at the shrine. Devotion was more than a private habit; it gave several family members a shared direction.

The meditation remembers Supreme Soul Shiva in the Matangeshwar form, which the video associates with moving beyond conflict toward harmony. This need not mean that everyone holds identical opinions. Shared virtues can support goodwill without erasing individual judgment.

Living relatives and ancestors are visualized holding hands in a circle, with light and goodwill flowing through it. The family qualities written earlier are recalled one by one: support, patience, devotion or whichever strengths are genuinely present in your history.

Beyond gratitude: putting the quality into life

Day 2 thanked the ancestors for what was received. Day 7 asks us to consciously adopt those strengths and put them into family life. It is a movement from recognition toward practice.

After the morning observance, the video suggests returning briefly to the sense of alignment three to five times during the day. A full setup is not necessary for each return; pause, recall the chosen qualities and renew goodwill.

Most importantly, let one action express the quality. Listen patiently, offer practical support or take a constructive next step using what is available. Adopting ancestral strength means allowing the finest part of an inheritance to become a way of living.

Ritual & intention

Preparation and the daily offering

The following summarizes the procedure taught in this video series. Consult your family priest for your shraddha tithi, additional rites and family-specific traditions.

  1. Bathe and wear freshly washed inner and outer clothes. Prepare a clean place and a seat for yourself, remaining mindful of physical comfort.
  2. Place a small stool or low table covered with a clean cloth before you. The videos suggest a height slightly above the knees when seated. Use available ancestral photographs; having a picture of every ancestor is not required.
  3. This series specifies a metal lamp with pure desi ghee rather than oil, with brass preferred. Keep the flame safely placed and never leave it unattended.
  4. Prepare a shallow plate, a vessel of clean water and a small quantity of black sesame seeds. Acknowledge known and unknown ancestors from both lineages and establish the intention of service.
  5. Respectfully offer water into the plate while repeating “Om Pitru Devataya Namah” at least three times. Offer the sesame seeds into the water with the same mantra. Its intended meaning is a respectful salutation to one’s revered ancestors.
  6. Continue with today’s particular intention and guided practice. Treat the water respectfully afterward; the series describes placing water for birds or, where appropriate, offering it at tulsi or a tree’s roots.

The inward intention for today

Visualize yourself, living relatives and ancestors within a circle of light and goodwill. Recall the chosen virtues, feel gratitude and commit to expressing them through action. Hold unity together with freedom and respect, not control.

Carry the intention into your day

Write the three qualities and one small action beside each. When remembrance, reflection and conduct point in the same direction, the idea of alignment gains a practical expression.

Reflect & understand

Insights and questions for this day

Do ancestors control our decisions?

The video distinguishes guidance from control. Inspiration may be sought, but responsibility for action and choice remains with us. Discernment therefore belongs alongside practice.

Is the radio frequency example literal?

It is a metaphor for alignment: attention and conduct becoming receptive to a quality. It is not a scientific measurement of a soul’s frequency.

How do I identify genuine family strengths?

Start with an actual memory. Who offered support, rebuilt after difficulty or served others? A quality grounded in an event is more meaningful than an imagined ideal.

Does harmony require identical opinions?

No. Shared respect and virtues can exist alongside disagreement. Alignment should not be used to silence someone or remove their independence.

How does Day 7 differ from Day 2?

Day 2 recognized and thanked the gifts received. Day 7 practices adopting those qualities in present life and connecting through shared goodwill.

What practical intention should I take from today?

Choose at least one action that expresses a selected virtue. Support, patience or resilience continues an inheritance when it appears in your own behavior.

An important note for readers
