Who Was Permitted to Eat Meat and Why?? — The Truth of the Scriptures That No One Tells You.

Who Was Permitted to Eat Meat and Why?? — The Truth of the Scriptures That No One Tells You.

A question comes up again and again — "Bhai ji, it is written in the scriptures that meat-eating is permitted for Kshatriyas. So when the scriptures have given permission, why would there be any karmic burden? Are the scriptures wrong, or are you?"

And another — "In Western countries, meat is eaten every single day, yet there is so much wealth and prosperity there. So where is the proof that eating meat creates sin?"

Both questions are genuine in their place. It is important to know their answer — because until this is made clear, a person either keeps justifying themselves with flawed logic, or abandons the question without ever truly understanding it.

First Understand This — Varna Is Determined by Karma, Not Birth

When it is said that "meat-eating is permitted for Kshatriyas" — the very first question is: how are you a Kshatriya? Simply because a particular surname is attached to your father's name? Or because some ancestor of yours once lifted a weapon?

Varna is determined by karma — not by birth. One who connects others to God — that is a Brahmin. One who takes up arms to protect the nation and dharma — that is a Kshatriya. One who drives the economy and provides livelihood — that is a Vaishya. And one who works under the direction of a higher authority — that is a Shudra.

So who is a true Kshatriya in today's time? Those standing at the borders. Those protecting the nation in -15 degree frost. Those fighting snakes and scorpions deep inside jungles. Those who have left home and family for months and years, stationed on land where an ordinary person cannot even stand. Whether their surname is Pandey, Sahu, or Kushwaha — their karma is that of a Kshatriya.

And one who sits in an IT company tapping away at a keyboard — whatever family they were born into — by the evidence of karma, that person is not a Kshatriya.

Why Were Kshatriyas Permitted Meat — The Real Reason

This belongs to an era when kings marched hundreds of kilometres on foot to fight wars. No motorcycles, no trucks, no supply chain to bring provisions. Just two feet, a spear, a suit of armour, and whatever rations they could carry.

Imagine — walking 300 kilometres. Mountains, forests, and deserts along the way. Passing through jungles where insects would burrow into the body and eat from within. Blisters, wounds, and physical breakdown on the body. And upon reaching the battlefield — swords, arrows, spears. Some would return; some would remain there forever.

Whatever they had carried — grains, lentils, vegetables — had long run out. Along the way there was either a jungle, or a river, or a village. And it was the king's dharma that he would not take the village people's rations — they were his subjects, and he had come to protect them.

So what remained? Hunting. Whatever was available in the jungle — eat it to stay alive, then go and protect the nation.

This was compulsion. Not the pleasure of the tongue — it was the necessity of survival. And when the scriptures gave this permission, they gave it with an understanding of this compulsion — not to give someone permission to sit on a sofa and eat chicken.

Compulsion and Indulgence — The Difference Is as Great as Earth and Sky

When a Kshatriya hunted in the middle of war, deep in a jungle, to stay alive — that was compulsion. And he also paid the price of that compulsion — by bearing countless hardships on his body. Wounds were sustained, limbs were severed, many laid down their lives on the battlefield itself. Indulgence and suffering — side by side.

And beyond this — the prayers of the entire nation were with them. All those who were safe because of them — their blessings became a shield. And these prayers substantially lightened the karmic burden of their actions.

But one who sits at home, in an armchair, and takes the life of a living being purely for the pleasure of the tongue — no prayers are with them. They endured no hardship. They rendered no service. And yet they caused immeasurable suffering to a soul — who is a child of God. Their karmic burden is heavy. And there is no shortcut to clearing it.

A Mother's Cry — and a Deep Lesson

A sister came. She had a child whose both legs did not work. She wept deeply. She said — "Why are there so many troubles in our home?"

She was asked — "Do you eat meat?"

"Yes."

Then one thing was said — "When you pull off and eat a chicken's leg, it does not hurt you. But when your child's legs are in pain, your heart breaks. That chicken was also someone's child. It too felt pain. The suffering we give — comes back around."

This is not a curse. This is not a punishment. This is simply nature's law — what you give, returns. Chitragupt keeps the account of every soul. The suffering we caused — returns to us, somewhere, in some form.

"But Western Countries Have So Much Wealth" — The Truth Behind This Argument

This comparison appears correct on the surface — but it is not. Because this is comparing apples and oranges.

First — the wealth in Western countries today was not earned by them. It is the wealth of a land that was once the golden bird — Bharat (India). Centuries of looting, exploitation, and cunning brought that wealth there. And wealth that comes through dishonesty does not last. The economic crises that European nations are facing today are proof of exactly this.

Second — every soul is not the same. One who is taking birth on this earth for the first time carries full fortune. It is God's law — whoever comes for the first time, comes prosperous. Whatever they do — their fortune meter is full. They will gain more with less effort.

And we — who have been on this earth for hundreds of births — have used our fortune across many lifetimes. So do not look at another's luck and ask "why do they get it?" This may be their first or second birth. Yours may be the seventieth or eightieth.

And the karmic burden they are accumulating through meat-eating now — it will not show up now. It will show up in the births to come. When their fortune meter runs empty — then they too will experience the consequences.

So What to Do Now — Repentance and Rebuilding

If meat has been consumed in life — there is no need for fear. But there is certainly a need to stop.

Sit down. Close your eyes. Remember all the living beings to whom you caused suffering. Say — "O pure souls, O parts of nature — I took your lives only for the taste of my tongue. For this I am deeply ashamed. May you find peace. May the light of God reach you."

Remember God Shiva in the form of Vaidyanath — the supreme healer. Sitting in meditation on Him, send that power towards all living beings. Send it towards nature. Send it towards Mother Earth. Say — "Mother, I will strive to give back more than I have taken."

And then make a resolve — from now on, it may happen in absolute necessity, but never purely for taste.

Who Was Permitted to Eat Meat and Why?? — The Truth of the Scriptures That No One Tells You.

The scriptures gave permission — to compulsion. Not to indulgence. To one who walked 300 kilometres on foot, passed through jungles, took wounds on the body, and gave their life in service of the nation.

Not to one who sits on a sofa, for the pleasure of the tongue, and takes the life of someone's child.

Once this difference is understood — not much more needs to be said. What you do, you experience. This is nature's immutable law. And from this law, no Kshatriya has been spared, no Western nation has been spared, and no angel named Michael can spare anyone either.
